It is my pleasure to announce that Jon Lomberg has been selected by the IAAA group of Fellows for the 2026 Lucien Rudaux Memorial Award in appreciation and commemoration of a lifetime of contribution to the development, dissemination, and public awareness of the genre of Astronomical Art.

Jon Lomberg was the Design Director for NASA's Voyager Golden Record, designing the image and sound sequences on that legendary project. He was Carl Sagan's longtime collaborator, the Emmy Award winning Chief Artist of COSMOS and designer of the opening animation for the film CONTACT. He sent many artworks by IAAA members to Mars on the DVD Visions of Mars he directed for the Planetary Society, now on NASA's Phoenix lander. He designed the Galaxy Garden in Hawaii, the world's first large scale explorable model of the Milky Way, based on the mural "Portrait of the Milky Way" he did for the National Air and Space Museum.
