“The Swan Nebula”

Oil on canvas 20 x 20 inches 2020 . I really wanted to call this painting “The Birth of Darth Vader” because of the dark ominous looking hydrogen cloud in the middle, and because it reminds me of the flowing cape and helmet he wore. The original Hubble image information is that this region of the Nebula is about 3,500 times wider than our solar system. It is hard to imagine something this massive!

Born in 1944 in Washington, D.C., I have painted and sculpted most of my life. At 74 years of age, I feel I am at my most creative time of life. I started painting a series of "Nebula Art" in 2015 after seeing the Hubble Space Telescope images. I find so much joy in attempting to capture these beautiful photographs. I live now in Naples, Florida, and have 18 completed paintings so far and will continue to paint as long as I am able. I studied art and sculpture at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C.; painting and sculpture at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Va. I have taken art classes in my community of Pelican Bay. Exhibition include Swiss Embassy, Torpedo Factory, Pelican Bay Community Center, Naples Art Association and Rookery Bay
