“The Flame Nebula”

24 x 36 inches oil on canvas – A large star-forming region in the constellation Orion, it is part of the Molecular Cloud Complex, which includes such famous nebulae as the Horsehead and Orion Nebula. It lies about 1,400 light-years from Earth. I used semi-transparent layers, also experimented with florescent paint pens.

Born in 1944 in Washington, D.C., I have painted and sculpted most of my life. At 74 years of age, I feel I am at my most creative time of life. I started painting a series of "Nebula Art" in 2015 after seeing the Hubble Space Telescope images. I find so much joy in attempting to capture these beautiful photographs. I live now in Naples, Florida, and have 18 completed paintings so far and will continue to paint as long as I am able. I studied art and sculpture at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C.; painting and sculpture at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Va. I have taken art classes in my community of Pelican Bay. Exhibition include Swiss Embassy, Torpedo Factory, Pelican Bay Community Center, Naples Art Association and Rookery Bay
