About the Artist
Arno is a Belgian designer, space artist and thinker. He is the co-founder of The Spacecraft Agency: a creative studio dedicated to creating and curating art in outer space. In collaboration with NASA, The Spacecraft Agency launched their first unvisitable group art exhibition, "PACE" in 2021 via SpaceX and it is currently in low earth orbit.
His current research interests lie in the history and current practice of artistic artefacts in the extraterrestrial space environment. For this, he is compiling an extensive - and first- historical repository of ‘astronautical art’: art beyond the von Kármán line.
He previously worked as a visiting researcher and visual strategist at NASA JPL where he collaborated on the integration of artistic and creative practices in mission development to help specialists “think through their thinking”.
In addition to this, he was a program director, design lecturer, and new media researcher in the department of design and technology at the Erasmus University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Brussels. He has also run a communication agency, an art gallery, and a non-profit organisation promoting youth innovation.
Currently, Arno serves as a program committee member at the ‘School of Thinking’ - CLEA Center for Transdisciplinary Research at the Free University of Brussels. He holds a MA in Graphic Design from the LUCA School of Arts in Brussels, a MSc in Space Studies from the International Space University in Strasbourg, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Philosophy and Cognitive Science from the Free University of Brussels. He is also an alumnus of the US Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) and a former licensed paramedic. He has been passionate about space ever since he was awestruck by the Pillars of Creation as a kid.
