About the Artist

Don White is a mixed media, watercolor, gel pen, acrylics and alcohol inks artist gone digital. He shares his lifelong passion for astronomy and space travel through his art, dedicating the effort to those who are fascinated with the possibilities and vastness of space and are energized by the adventure ahead for humans as we enter the galactic playing field. Don began creating space art at the age of 8 - spontaneously doodling and coloring with anything that would make a mark on paper, drawing pictures and calculating the gallons of gas it would take to get to Mars...growing up curious, he later began asking questions like - What if gravity pushed instead of pulled?....What if empty space wasn't really empty?...What if color was just sound at a higher frequency?.....What if everything I learned is wrong? The art he does today is inspired by a statement by Carl Sagan, a long time hero of his who said: “Since in the long run, every planetary civilization will be endangered by impacts from space – every surviving civilization is obliged to become space-faring. Not because of exploratory or romantic zeal, but for the most practical reason imaginable – staying alive. If our long term survival is at stake, we have a basic responsibility to our species to venture to other worlds.” If even in a tiny way, I hope my work starts some conversations in that direction.
