Four Glass Planetary Bead Pendant Necklaces

Over the last 18th months (including two UK Covid lockdowns) I have been experimenting with different coloured glass and frit with the aim of creating focal beads that have a planetary feel to them. I use an oxy-con torch and welders mandrels (coated in slip), melting different coloured glass (plus different thickness of glass rods) onto each mandrel. Molten glass looks red/orange/yellow regardless of the original colour so it’s difficult to accurately add different colours correctly onto a proto bead. It takes lots of time and experience to create a bead that looks something like what I’d envisaged…with a pile of dud beads that never make the grade.
