Death Valley – a portrait of Mars

Death Valley was an exciting place to be in 1983! It was there in the ghost town of Death Valley Junction that a group of artists, devoted to astronomical imagery, gathered for the first time. This was a unique event and everyone was excited about the job at hand: capture the essence of this bizarre landscape and let it ignite your imagination.

The artists who met there shared a deep interest in portraying the realities and mysteries of the universe in their drawings and paintings.
As an artist with a love of astronomy, I was invited to participate in this event. I accepted, and decided to take with me something that was completely revolutionary at the time: a portable video camera!

Now we can re-visit the workshop that lead to the founding of the International Association of Astronomical Artists. I hope you enjoy the trip.
