Speaking of Cod Wars, I lived in Iceland for a while 15 years before the 1988 workshop during that period. Working on a trawler out of Olafsvik, we were shadowed for days by a British gunboat a half kilometer away. We once had three weeks to ourselves while major engine repairs were done. I took off with the second engineer in his VW and we knocked around the interior on some amazing adventures. I’m posting a few images to the What’s Up page showing us abseiling into the throats of some craters, the rope tied to the VW bumper. It was like Journey to the Center of the Earth. I remember the whole funnel was very smooth and narrowed as one descended. An award-winning artist and animator, Joel Hagen is a founding member of the IAAA. He is a MER collaborator, part of the Opportunity rover science operations team and has produced image products for the Opportunity, Phoenix and Pathfinder missions. A retired computer graphics instructor, Joel works with digital and traditional media as well as 3D printing and print surface treatments. Joel also designs extra-terrestrial life forms and biomes.
